A month-long writing challenge, using The Beatles' songs as inspiration. |
I could not agree more! I think Ringo broke the mould. He did some stuff that is really hard to copy. The Golden Slumbers medley is just sublime. And yes, a human metronome is the perfect description for him. He never misses a single beat. He's never off, even by a fraction. I think what makes it a little harder to follow his drum patters is that he was left-handed, playing a right handed kit. I know it doesn't seem like it would make a difference, but it does. At least, that's what I'm telling myself as I try (struggle) to copy him. It's definitely a lot harder to learn now that I'm (ahem) middle-aged. As a teenager, I could pick up the sticks and bash my way through any song. Not so much these days. I didn't know you were a drummer, too. In my book, that instantly makes you a cool cat, lol. I read somewhere (I don't remember where) that George Martin said Ringo didn't just play the rhythm or the beat of the songs, he played the feelings, and I think that's such a perfect way of saying it. He did play the feelings. Yes, Paul could do some fancy fills, but his drumming never makes me feel the songs as much as Ringo's does. I love Ringo. There: I said it. ![]() |
