My original plan for retirement was to become a vagabond in a travel trailer, towed by a pickup or van rigged out for temporary sleeping. I would spend my time traveling, parking the trailer at a centrally located campground. Using the pickup/van. I would explore the surrounding area, finding other accommodations as needed. That plan got tabled for several reasons. First and foremost, I met the Love of My Life, Lenore. Lennie is most definitely not the camping type. Additionally, as the time grew closer and I researched and analyzed that plan, I came to realize that it wasn't cost-effective once one considered depreciation on the trailer and tow vehicle, as well as the ongoing costs of upkeep. So we've settled on just traveling. We did purchase a timeshare, which is tradable, and when compared to a week at a hotel, it is actually a bargain. As for living someplace else permanently, we've considered warmer climes, but tend to find issues that put us off — too hot in the Summer, too much snow in the winter, and wait tornadoes. hurricanes, earthquakes, and tsunamies — Oh My! We've both lived on Long Island our whole lives, and I think we'll stay put. |
