Lindsay hurriedly finished dressing again as Ron whistled and Xei Li simply stared at Lindsay in stunned silence. As Lindsay buttoned the last button of her blouse, the doctor walked in.
“Well, Freddie, I’m glad you’re up and about. We couldn't really find anything wrong with you from our tests, but there was some sort of anomaly with the CT scan. We’re going to ask you to come back in two days to retake that test. We need to run diagnostics and possibly make repairs on the machine. In the meantime, we’re going to release you, but we would like to ask you not to drive. If there is something wrong, we don’t want you to be a danger to others on the road. Do you have anyone that can take you home?”
Freddie looked up at Lindsay, but Xei Li spoke up before he could even ask Lindsay the question.
“I’ll take him,” she said eagerly, then blushed.
“Alright then,” said the doctor. “It’s settled. Your friend will take you home…” He snapped closed his folder and left the room.
Lindsay gave Freddie a long, meaningful gaze as she walked toward the entrance. Ron held the door open for her and they both left.
Xei Li exited the room next, to give Freddie an opportunity to change back into his street clothes.
As they both got in Xei Li’s car, she cast a curious glance at Freddie.
“Thank you,” she said.
Freddie looked baffled.
“For what?”
She glanced down at her chest and gave him a meaningful look.
“Oh yeah!” Freddie remembered what had happened before his hospital visit.
“Do you think you could maybe, um, do it again?”
“What?!”
“You did a lot for Lindsay…”
“I-I did… yes.”
“So how about it?”
“Sure, I guess… but I have to power up to use my abilities…” Freddie looked sheepish.
“Power up?”
“Yeah. I, uh, need to have sex—or at least release—to, um, improve people.”
Xei Li said nothing to that, simply staring at the road ahead as they drove.
“I’m not really into guys,” she finally said.
“I wasn’t… I mean… I didn’t mean to say that you had to…”
“But I am into Lindsay.”
This conversation quickly was becoming really strange, thought Freddie.
They drove the rest of the way home in silence.
When Xei Li pulled into the parking lot of Freddie’s apartment complex, she turned to look at him, considering something silently.
“Okay,” she said.
“Okay, what?” Freddie asked, completely confused about where this was leading.
“I’ll do it,” she said.
“You’ll, um, do what exactly?”
“I’ll fuck you.”
Jesus! Something about the way she said it wasn’t very appealing. It was as if he were an unwanted chore that simply had to be done, like taking out the garbage. Freddie couldn’t believe he was going to pass up the chance to power up again with the attractive Asian. But here he was…
“I don’t think that’s a good idea, X. Why don’t we just call it a day. I’m pretty wiped after… everything.”
Now that Freddie had turned her down, Xei Li actually looked disappointed.
“Okay. Maybe some other time?” she asked hopefully.
What the hell? A second ago, she seemed less than enthusiastic about the whole thing. Now, it seemed as if she really wanted to do it! Should he reconsider?
He thought about it, but decided against it.
“Have a good night, X. Thanks for the ride home.”
“You’re welcome.”
Freddie couldn’t read her expression.
