The wind whipped across the soccer field like it had unresolved emotional issues. Drew jogged ahead, his cleats kicking up tufts of grass, while Jared trudged behind, hoodie flapping like a sad flag of surrender.

Mike was already waiting, grinning like he’d just dared someone to lick a frozen goalpost.

“Drew! You still got that alien power thing over Jared?”

Drew smirked.

“Locked and loaded. Why? What’s the plan?”

Mike pointed at Jared.

“Time for some fun. Let's make him a fairy.”

Jared stopped mid-step.

“What? I beg your pardon?”

“A *fey*,” Mike said. “Wings. Sparkles. Flight. You know—like Tinkerbell but with more existential dread.”

Jared blinked. “I’m not emotionally prepared to be whimsical.”

"Oh, come on! The wind is blowing really hard! If you had wings like a fey, you could fly around! You're gonna love this!" Mike just smiled.

Drew clapped his hands. “You’re gonna be majestic, bro. Trust the process.”

Jared crossed his arms. “The last time someone said ‘trust the process,’ I ended up duct-taped to a vending machine.”

“Exactly,” Mike said. “And that was *hilarious*.”

Drew grinned. “Okay, Jared. Shirt off.”

Jared squinted. “Why do all your ideas start with me losing clothing?”

“Because magic needs skin contact,” Drew said, clearly making it up.

Mike nodded solemnly. “It’s in the handbook.”

Jared quietly mumbled and complained as he walked up to Drew and removed his shirt and his hoodie, knowing that Drew was going to use his powers over him to make him do something silly again.

Jared sighed and peeled off his hoodie and shirt. “I feel like I’m about to be sacrificed to the wind gods.”

“Turn around,” Drew said.

Jared turned. “If I sprout glitter, I’m suing.”

"Oh, hush, will ya? Now comes the good part, fairy-boy!" Drew said.

Drew raised his hand like he was summoning thunder.

“Grow rainbow wings from Jared’s spine!” he ordered.

*FWOOOSH!*

A burst of light exploded behind Jared. Rainbow wings unfurled with a *shimmering whoosh*, glittering like a unicorn’s fever dream.

Within seconds, Jared was carrying big, long, and very wide rainbow-colored wings, which spread out to almost four times as wide as Jared's own body. The wings were very wide and long, but the colors were beautiful and stunning.

Jared gasped. “I HAVE WINGS. I LOOK LIKE A MAGICAL PARROT.”

Mike clapped. “You look like a Lisa Frank folder came to life.”

Drew handed Jared a rope. “Hold this. When the wind hits, spread your wings.”

Jared took the rope like it was a live snake. “This is how I die. Flapping like a butterfly with anxiety.”

A gust surged across the field.

“NOW!” Drew shouted.

Drew started running into the wind, directing Jared to do the same but with his wings spread out as far as possible.

Jared spread his wings—and instantly lifted off the ground like a human kite. Drew took off running, the rope taut, Jared flapping awkwardly above like a confused parade balloon.

“THIS IS NOT FAAABULOUS!” Jared screamed.

"YES! He's off the ground... He's FLYING!" Drew shouted.

Mike doubled over laughing. “You’re majestic! You’re airborne! You’re... spinning!”

Jared twirled midair. “I’M A GLITTERY TORNADO OF REGRET!”

Drew shouted, “You’re doing great! Just flap harder!”

“I DON’T KNOW HOW TO FLAP!” Jared yelled, wings flailing like jazz hands in a hurricane.

Then—*oops*—Drew dropped the rope.

“FLAP!” Drew yelled again. "Keep on flapping those wings of yours!"

Jared flapped. Miraculously, he didn’t plummet. Instead, he banked left and circled the school like a sparkly surveillance drone.

On the ground, it was complete chaos.

Students pointed. A teacher dropped her coffee. Someone yelled, “Is that Jared?!”

Jared screamed back, “YES, AND I’M REEVALUATING MY LIFE CHOICES!”

Eventually, the wind calmed. Jared steadied his wings, lowered his legs, and landed with a surprisingly graceful thud near the goalpost.

he came down, his feet touching the ground while running. He retracted his wings and made a perfect landing!

He stood up, panting. “I just... flew.”

Drew ran over, eyes wide. “Dude. You were amazing.”

Mike added, “You looked like a majestic airborne jellybean.”

Jared looked at his wings, then at his friends. “I want a cape next. And maybe a helmet. And a therapist.”

The boys huddled up, laughing, high-fiving, and already planning Jared’s next magical misadventure.

"Let's do that again, fairy-boy!" Mike screamed. "But with a cell phone next time!"
