Margaret held up the new t-shirt to her torso, examining herself in the mirror. She sighed and tossed the shirt aside where it joined several others on her bed. She frowned at her closet. The first day of high school was tomorrow, and she still hadn't picked out her outfit.
"Seriously. Do I really not have anything else to wear?" She mumbled to herself as she looked at the pile of t-shirts on her bed.
Every single one of them had either a video game or anime reference printed on them. She turned to her closet, but all of her shirts in there were pretty much the same as the ones on the bed.
"I don't want everyone to know I'm a nerd on my first day of school!"
She plopped down on her bed next to the shirts and grabbed a handful of chips from the open bag beside her and shoved them into her mouth. Her tongue stung as the salt from the chips seemed to irritate her mouth. She'd gone through practically the whole bag since she started looking at outfits, and by the look of it, she was going to need another bag soon.
She grabbed the remote from her night-stand and flicked the TV on as she lay down on her bed. A store logo flashed on the screen for a moment. She quickly navigated to the anime app on her TV and booted up the most recent series she'd been watching. She grabbed another handful of chips and shoved them into her mouth, crunching away as she became engrossed in the show.
After only ten minutes, she reached for another handful of chips but found the bag empty. She paused her show and picked up the bag, dumping the crumbs into her long mouth as she swallowed the last of the crumbs.
She hopped off the bed and headed for the kitchen. She was hungry. And she knew exactly the snacks she wanted.
As Margaret opened the door to the kitchen, her eyes fell on the snack cabinet. Stuffed with candy, chips, and other junk foods. Her mouth began to salivate with all the food options. "Hm...Decisions, decisions..." She mumbled as she grabbed a few bags of chips and a bag of popcorn and headed back to her room.
Margaret plopped back down on her bed, glancing at the alarm clock on the night-stand. 1:43 PM. Smiling to herself, she pressed play on her remote and quickly began munching on the snacks she'd grabbed. The episodes seemed to blend together endlessly as she lounged on her bed. The light outside slowly got dimmer and took on a reddish tinge as she kept watching anime. Occasionally, she'd glance at the pile of shirts and feel her stomach clench and she'd immediately grab another handful of chips and shove it into her mouth.
She closed her eyes and let out a sigh as she glanced at the clock. 6:57 PM.
"Ugh...School..." Margaret groaned as she stretched out on the bed. She pulled herself up to standing with a grunt. "I guess I should probably get to it." She turned off the TV and tossed the empty chip bag she was holding onto the floor. She grabbed one of the shirts next to her and held it up in front of her.
"Ugh...I definitely should've bought new shirts." Margaret said to herself as she saw the video game design filling the front of the shirt. She sighed and ran a hand through her hair as she tossed the shirt back onto the pile.
"I guess I could always run to the mall before they close, but I don't really want to," she moaned, "Ugh, why do I even care. It's not like I'm going to be one of the popular girls. It's so hard to think on an empty stomach, maybe I should go get dinner first. That could help."
