"Magic works magic, and it's dangerous to muddle with it any further. Go fetch the dress that was intended for Princess Fia. Quickly!"
The captain nodded before scurrying off to the wagon that was trailing behind the carriage. The scribe observed the captain before nodding to himself and turning to the transformed prince.
"What's going on? Why am I in these clothes? Why are the clothes intended for Prince Fia sprawled all over the carriage? Explain yourself!" Kelos exclaimed, flustered. The scribe only took a moment to think up an answer.
"I would like to apologize, Prince... Princess Kelos," the scribe stopped to affirm the prince's reaction. It seemed that she still thought her name was Kelos. The scribe continued, "We had a little... accident with the scrolls. Don't you remember?"
"Yes! I remember that you were telling me what these scrolls do and... I can't remember. I can't remember anything after that!" Kelos exclaimed, clutching her face in horror. "What happened?"
Ah, memory loss. The scribe thought. This will be a problem.
"You see, you opened one of the scrolls... it seems to have changed your clothes. And only your clothes," the scribe repeated to affirm the prince that there was nothing wrong. "I have no idea why you cannot remember it. Perhaps you were frightened?"
The prince nodded. "That makes sense," she stated. "But how will I appear before Prince Fia now?"
"Not to worry, we have some spare clothes," the scribe stated as the captain rushed with the gift intended for princess Fia. The dress overflew from his hands. It was one of those gaudy dresses that princesses would wear for balls, decorated with lace all over. The light pink color made it stand out, causing the wearer to look like an innocent soul. It was truly meant for coming-of-age princesses to attract suitors. Kelos held her breath.
"A tad bit gaudy," she began. "But... it shall do." She stated slowly to not give away the fact that she was fascinated by the dress. The scribe nodded.
"We shall wait outside for you to get dressed," he stated, hopping off the carriage and motioning the captain to follow him. The captain nodded.
"So, what do we do now?" The captain began, scratching his head. "Make way for Traevan?"
"Are you an idiot?" The scribe spat. "Don't you realize that we're stuck in a predicament? I only bought us some time. But we cannot just continue our merry way as if though nothing happened. We need help."
The captain slowly processed the scribe's words. "So... who shall help?"
"I already know who," the scribe replied. "I just need to write this letter. Do anything that would delay this trip."
"Like what?" The captain asked, tilting his head.
"I do not know! Anything." The scribe began, before an idea came to his mind. "Here, use this scroll in front of the carriage. It will turn the ground into a viscous mud."
"But wouldn't the carriage fall through and get stuck?" The captain said, inquiringly.
"That's exactly what we want! Now get a move on it!" The scribe stated as he began to write the letter. In it, he included everything: how he needed help, how the carriage got stuck, and every detail of Prince Kelos' curse. Nodding to himself, he said as he finished it, "That shall do it."
Suddenly, a screeching sound was heard as the carriage fell through the ground, its front wheel inevitably getting stuck halfway through the mud. Kelos, hearing the sound, peeks out of the carriage, not daring to ruin her newly found dress.
"What happened?" She called out the scribe. "What's going on?"
"My apologies," the scribe began, "It seems that the carriage got stuck in the mud. We will not be able to continue."
"What?" Kelos exclaimed, eyes bulging out. "But I am supposed to see Prince Fia. Soon! Whatever shall we do?"
"Do not worry. I have written a letter, asking for help. I had foreseen that this would happen." He stretched out the hand with the letter, showing it to the princess before it quickly vanished before her eyes, warping through space.
"To whom did you send the letter?" Kelos asked inquisitively.
"Well..."
