Naminé's eyes widened further. She knew this man. He was one of those in Castle Oblivion, the one with the creepy laugh that was always ranting on and on about his experiments. He was almost even creepier than the guy with the pink hair and the woman who orchestrated the whole incident.
Not to mention, wasn't this guy defeated at Castle Oblivion.
"I...don't want to hear anything from you..." She spoke, trying to put on a brave face, though it was hard to hide her fear. Not like she had much of a way to defend herself.
"I'm aware that you might not be inclined to listen, given what happened at Castle Oblivion," Vexen said, as if this didn't bug him. "However, I assure you that you'll find this information most interesting."
Needless to say, Naminé wasn't buying it. Clutching her pad a little, she tried looking away from him. The Chilly Academic sighed, though he didn't seem surprised.
"I suppose words won't do much, and I very well can't harm you," He said, before snapping his fingers. "So perhaps these will suffice."
At that, three bursts of light appeared at Vexen's feet, blinding Naminé slightly. To say she was confused would be an understatement. Was he attacking her? Didn't sound like he wanted to, but what did she know. All she knew about these Organization members is that they valued her abilities. In any case, the light died down before too long, allowing Naminé to look. Once she did though, she got out of her seat.
"What?"
At Vexen's feet appeared to be three white dummy's. One probably wouldn't guess what it was upon seeing them for the first time, but Naminé had an idea. These....were replica bodies. Things she had known of from Castle Oblivion. She had previously become acquainted with one based on Riku's image, and of course, there was Xion.
"I presume I don't need to explain these." Vexen said nonchalantly.
"Well yes but.....why?" Naminé asked, utterly confused.
"I suppose I'll have to give you the full explanation." He sighed. "I suppose I should start with why I'm here. To start if off, I'm not the same Vexen you knew, but rather, a replica."
".....What?" she repeated.
"I, or rather the original Vexen, eagerly wanted to explore the details of replica technology. So, to do that, and in case anything happened to him, he made 44 replicas of himself, of which I'm one of. Of course, as you're aware of, the original met his end at Castle Oblivion, so as you can see, it was quite an intelligent maneuver to accomplish this."
Naminé couldn't help but notice the bit of smugness in that quote.
"In any case, following that, the other replicas and I continued working in secret. As time went on, we eventually started transferring ourselves into other replicas, giving us more to work with. Effectively, our experiences were merging together too, so it's not like anything was being lost. However, during the course of this, we began to realize something. I'm sure this isn't strange to you, but for us, it was startling when we realized we were beginning to feel emotions."
True, something like that wasn't strange to Naminé, given her nature. However, for someone like Vexen? That was very much new. She didn't speak a word and let him continue.
"At first, you would think we were just fooling ourselves, as we had been doing since the beginning. Yet....these emotions were actually true. The first we had felt since becoming Nobodies. This was against what Xemnas had told us, and while we had suspicions that he had a plot of his own, the fact that he lied in such a matter made it all the clearer that something was up. And so, having faced that realization, the other replicas and I changed course, trying to perfect our replicas for another matter."
Xemnas...the leader of the Organization. Naminé didn't know what the man looked like, though clearly there were those who didn't agree with him. Those two leaders at Castle Oblivion were indication of that.
"So, what are you saying?" Naminé said a little sternly. Honestly, she liked that it seemed like someone had a change of heart so to speak, but she wasn't entirely on board with him yet.
"To sum things up to where we are now, we were able to perfect three replica bodies, far more advanced than any we had accomplished before," Vexen then took a breath. "Although, it basically required we use up most of the bodies we had. I am now the only replica of Vexen left, after all the merges we did."
Was there....actually a twinge of regret in there? Naminé was pretty good at deciphering people's feelings in such a regard, which made her soften a bit. As bizarre as this was, perhaps he was truly meaningful.
"Okay....so what are you suggesting I do with these?" Naminé asked.
"Simple. These are for you, Roxas, and Xion."
