This is the story of Michael, a teen in high school who just turned 18 and who has no clue about what he wants to do in life.
His father wants him to focus and play a sport and his mother wants him to go to college and study to become a lawyer or a doctor. Michael just wants to play video games all day after he gets home from school. He has no friends and no girlfriend. He doesn’t know what he wants to do after school, and his parents are annoyed that he has no interests or hobbies.
Even though Michael isn’t exactly fat or out of shape, he has put on some pounds by not moving so much. His father pushes him to play football or baseball, but Michael isn’t interested. Michael goes to the gym on a rare occasion, when Alex, the teenage jock next door, persuades him to get out of the house and joins him at the gym for a workout because Michael makes a good spot. Michael has never committed anything, and he doesn’t have the discipline to do something consistently.
One afternoon, when the family is all dressed up to be at their grandmother’s funeral, Michael is overcome by a strange, cold feeling as he walks around the graveyard after the funeral is over. He feels as if something has entered his body after passing the gravestone of a teenage girl named Michelle, who had passed away a year earlier in a car accident. He doesn’t think much of it, so he just continues his way home with his parents.
Alex, who is the jock next door, had texted Michael after he got home.
“Yo, Mike! How was the funeral?” Alex asked him.
“Depressing, dude! I need to do something fun, man. Let’s get out of the house.” Michael replied.
Alex met Michael at the bus stop and the two teens rode the bus to the shopping mall, which was only five minutes away. Once there, they wandered around the mall.
Alex always wanted to visit the large sports store, so he dragged Michael inside. Normally, he wouldn’t be interested at all, but something nudged him to go inside anyway. Alex immediately jogged over to the baseball and the football sections, happily looking over all the new gear that was on sale. Michael looked on, feeling disinterested and bored, when he looked around and spotted the new soccer section.
Something deep down inside Michael made him walk over to the soccer section in the very back of the large sports store. There, he saw the colorful soccer cleats on the shelves against the wall. Michael had an overwhelming urge to take one pair of bright blue soccer cleats and to walk over to a small leather bench just to try them on. Luckily, he was already wearing white long athletic socks on his feet.
He put on both cleats and started walking around the hard concrete floor. Then he took a soccer ball, which was on display, and started kicking it in the air, very gently.
“Hey! I didn’t know you were interested in soccer!” Alex shouted, as he walked over to the soccer section. “What’s going on?”
“I… I didn’t know it either. I was just… drawn to it. I saw the cleats and… I just felt like I wanted to try them on! I don’t know. They just looked… COOL!” Michael sighed, as he tapped the ball a few times with his cleats.
“Are you gonna buy them?” Alex asked him. “I got a pair of cleats at my house if you wanna try them on first. We can go to the soccer field at the park and kick a ball around, if you just want to see if you like soccer or not!”
“Uhh… Sure! I’ll take you up on that!” Michael shrugged. “I… I just don’t know what made me want to play soccer. I can’t explain it!”
Michael took the cleats off, and he set the ball back. The boys walked around the mall some more before taking the bus back home. Once at the house, Alex brought over his old soccer cleats for Michael to try on, and they fit. They decided to practice at the park the following day.
Later that night, Michael would find out that he was possessed by a girl who was a very good soccer player! How would that happen?
