Seeing the shaken and broken boy in front of her, Sophie sprang into action. She pulled off her sweatshirt and handed it to you to wrap around your waist. She collected the remainder of her scattered school supplies and herded you to the nurse’s office through the thankfully-empty hallway.
The young and rather attractive nurse looked up from her computer. “What happened?” she asked.
Sophie waited a moment for you to answer, but when you remained silent, she explained, “We crashed into each other in the hall way while he was on his way to the bathroom and he peed himself.”
“I’m sorry,” the nurse replied. “Don’t feel too bad. That can happen to anybody.” She picked up her phone and turned to you. “I’ll give your mom a call.”
You meekly tell the nurse your mom’s phone number. The nurse punches in the number and a silence falls over the small office. “Hello ma’am, this is the nurse at the high school. I have your son here with me. He had a little accident in the hallway. I’ll let him speak with you.”
She hands you the phone, which you reluctantly take as you dread the oncoming conversation.
“What does she mean accident? Are you okay?” your mom asked.
Your reply comes out like a whisper, “I’m fine. I…kind of…wet myself…”
“…you did what?” she asked. “I peed in my pants…” you say a little louder. Your face feels hot. “Can you come pick me up from school?” you ask.
