Chapter #7

Soul Survivor

Patsy didn't even bother wasting time trying to park when she finally arrived at what little remained of the school. The once proud institution that stood over everyone was now just a flatted pile of rubble courtesy of a giant nerd with an axe to grind.

The poor girl was left horrified as she walked around the property in search of her friend. All around there was blood, bodies, debris and shattered glass. It was the most horrifying thing Patsy Walker had ever seen outside of a horror movie and she was not handling it well.

"Heather!?" She called out in search of the girl and then mentally cursed herself as she looked all around. The last thing she wanted was for the giant geek girl to hear her voice and come back to punisher her like she'd already punished everyone else.

Despite her newfound fear of Edna McCoy, she ventured on through the broken property until she remembered her friend told her that she was by the front steps. Patsy did her best to block out the carnage and the memories of the school until she reached her destination.

She could see a body leaned against the bricks in a seated position covered in bruises and cuts. In front of them was a busted phone and immediately Patsy knew that the roughed-up girl in front of her was in fact her best friend.

"Heather!" She panicked as she rushed over to the unconscious girl. She was still breathing which in itself was a miracle, but she looked like a complete mess. The girl who prided herself on her appearance really did look like she'd been mauled by a wild animal.

She tried her best to rouse her from her sleep, but the girl was out cold. As Patsy briefly pulled away, she could see and feel the blood on her hands and if the need to survive weren't so prevalent then she may have become catatonic.

Even though she was scared half to death she pocketed the blonde's phone and hoisted her over her shoulder like a sack of potatoes. Heather was heavier than expected but that's what happens when a person had to carry around dead weight.

Patsy eventually made it back to her car where she gently placed her friend in the backseat before shutting the door and returning to the driver side. With Heather secure she didn't hesitate to race back home and leave the school in her rearview.

Edna "Geek Girl" McCoy had caused the countless deaths of who knows how many and that terrible realization was almost enough to completely push Patsy Walker over the edge. She didn't know what would happen next, but all she did know was she'd saved at least one life.

Everyone else was most likely dead. All of her other friends were gone now, even if they weren't the closest. A place that held so many good memories for her was now in ruins. She just hoped that today couldn't possibly get any worse.
