Arriving at school, Bill nervously walked into the building. He was still in his mother's mother, wearing all her clothes. But for some reason she didn't seem to notice.
“Hi, Bill!” called a voice.
Bill turned and recognized his best friend Matt.
“Uh, hi Matt,” he said, nervous about the way he looked and the fact he now had his mother's voice.
“Almost late again buddy?” Matt laughed, punching Bill in the arm.
“Yeah, guess so...” Bill murmured.
“What's wrong?” asked Matt.
“Oh, I just... I guess I'm not feeling myself today,” Bill stammered. “Matt, let me ask you a question and please answer honestly. Do I seem... different at all to you? I mean do I look or sound weird? Am I dressed normal and stuff?”
“Dude, you look fine!” laughed Matt.
“Is this... is this how I always look and dress?” asked Bill.
“Sheesh, what's with you today?” said Matt. “Yes, for the last time. You look completely normal. And those are totally your normal clothes you're wearing Bill. Are you sick or something?”
“Nahh, I'm fine,” said Bill trying to laugh it all off. “Just goofing off.”
“Well c'mon, before we're late for class!” said Matt.
Just then a bell rang and kids started migrating out of the school hallways and into the classrooms.
Bill looked down at himself as he walked – he still wore his mother's sweater, dress slacks, and heels. His fingernails were long and neatly painted. He wore his mother's wedding ring and could feel earrings dangling from his earlobes. Yet, somehow the Grellstone had made all these things invisible to the rest of the world.
Bill wandered into his first class and took his seat, feeling intensely out of place.
