Chapter #8Super Wendy by: Millie Wendy blinked, the bright lights of the laboratory piercing her eyes, and suddenly she felt a strange sensation. It was as if her pupils had become tiny, fiery stars, pulsing with an energy she had never felt before. She focused on the barbell in front of her, the heavy weight now seeming so trivial in comparison to what was happening within her.
"What's next?" she thought to herself, feeling an insatiable hunger for more power. Her gaze narrowed and without warning, two beams of red-hot light shot from her eyes, striking the barbell with a ferocity that made the air crackle. The metal glowed white-hot before it snapped in two, the pieces flying across the room and embedding themselves in the concrete walls with a thunderous clang. The scientists ducked for cover, their fear palpable in the sudden silence that followed the explosion of power.
Wendy felt a thrill run down her spine as she realized the extent of her new abilities. She focused her gaze on a nearby mirror, watching as the reflection of her eyes blazed with a fiery intensity. "Laser beams," she murmured, testing the words on her lips. She took a deep breath and aimed her gaze at the glass again, the power surging through her. The mirror shattered into a thousand pieces, the edges of the frame blackening from the intense heat.
"Like, so fucking cool!" she exclaimed, her voice now resonating with an otherworldly power. She couldn't contain her excitement as she surveyed her new form. Her skin, once pale and freckled, was now a smooth, radiant ivory, seemingly glowing from within. Her muscles, bulging and defined, were a testament to her newfound strength. The power she had dreamed of, the power she had craved, was now hers.
With a wicked smirk, she took a deep breath and exhaled. The wind that came out of her mouth was not a mere gust; it was a fucking hurricane. The lab was thrown into chaos as the gale-force wind swept through it, knocking over equipment and sending the scientists tumbling like bowling pins. Papers fluttered and machines sparked as the storm raged on. The once-calm room was now a tempest of flying debris, and at the center of it all was Wendy, her hair whipping around her in wild tendrils.
Her mother watched from a safe distance, her eyes wide with a mix of pride and fear. She had created a monster, and she loved every moment of it. "Wendy, you're a natural!" Penelope shouted over the din, her voice a mix of excitement and caution.
Wendy's smirk grew wider as she turned to face the shattered mirror. Her eyes narrowed, and she took a running start, her legs coiling like a spring before unleashing their newfound power. In a flash, she was across the room, the sonic boom of her speed echoing through the laboratory. The scientists stared, mouths agape, as she moved faster than any human should ever be able to.
Without breaking stride, she reached out and touched the wall, her fingertips sinking into the solid concrete as if it were warm butter. The wall crumbled around her hand, leaving an imprint of her perfect fingers. "Fucking super strength," she murmured, feeling the power rush through her as she pulled her hand free.
Wendy turned to the scientists, her eyes now a deep, swirling vortex of power. "Bullets," she demanded, her voice now a thunderclap that made the walls tremble. The head scientist, his hands shaking, handed her a gun. She took it with a smirk and pointed it at her reflection. "Watch this," she said to no one in particular.
The sound of the gunshot was deafening in the enclosed space, the bullet leaving a trail of smoke as it hurtled towards her. But the moment it struck her skin, the round flattened and dropped harmlessly to the floor. Not even a scratch marred her perfect complexion. The scientists gaped in astonishment, and even Penelope's eyes widened in shock.
"You're invincible," one of them murmured, his voice barely audible over the ringing in their ears. Wendy's smirk grew into a full-blown grin. She felt a thrill run through her as she raised her hand, and with a thought, the gun flew out of the scientist's grip, landing in her palm.
Her eyes began to glow with a new intensity, and she felt a strange pressure behind them. Suddenly, she could see through the very fabric of reality, the wall of the laboratory fading to reveal the complex circuitry and metal guts beneath. Her newfound X-ray vision was a revelation, a peek into the hidden layers of the world that only a goddess like her could see. She waved her hand, watching the bullets inside the gun's magazine become visible, each one a tiny, lethal metal cylinder.
"Oh, this is too good," she murmured, her voice thick with excitement. She aimed the gun at the floor and fired, watching as the bullet streaked through the concrete, leaving a neat hole without any resistance. The scientists stumbled back in horror, their fear of her growing with each new power she revealed.
"But wait," she said, her eyes lighting up with a new idea. "What else can I do?" With that, she focused her heightened hearing, tuning into the conversations outside the lab. She could hear the guards talking, their footsteps echoing down the hallway. Her hearing was so sharp, she could make out the rustle of their clothes and the sound of their heartbeats.
Wendy's nose twitched, and she took a deep breath. The scent of fear was thick in the air, mixed with the faint chemical smell of the lab and the sweat of the scientists. Her nostrils flared as she honed in on the scents, identifying each individual present. She could even detect the faint hint of perfume on her mother's skin, the same scent she'd always found so suffocating now a comforting beacon in this new, overwhelming world of power.
Her hearing grew sharper, picking up whispers and murmurs that were miles away, the sound of the earth spinning, the very heartbeat of the planet itself. It was a cacophony that would drive a normal person mad, but to Wendy, it was a symphony of power, each note a testament to her newfound abilities. She could hear the guards outside the laboratory, their thoughts racing, their fear palpable.
With a sudden, exhilarating rush, Wendy felt the pressure in her chest lighten. It was as if gravity had loosened its hold on her, allowing her to rise into the air. She took a tentative step off the ground, and to her astonishment, she didn't fall. Instead, she hovered, her body weightless and free. The sensation was intoxicating, like nothing she had ever felt before. She spread her arms wide, and with a laugh that could shake the very foundations of the earth, she took to the skies.
The wind whipped around her as she soared higher and higher, the laboratory shrinking to a mere speck below her. The world looked so small from up here, so insignificant. Her mother's words of caution were lost in the rush of the wind, forgotten as the thrill of flight filled her every fiber. The air was cool and crisp against her skin, and she reveled in the feeling of her hair streaming out behind her, a dark banner of power in the sky.
Later
Dressed in a silk robe, Wendy stood in front of the mirror in her room and examined herself with satisfaction. They left the lab, after her mother personally secured the machine. "There's only room for one Superhuman in this world!" She kissed her on the cheek. Wendy wanted to fly back home herself, but Penelope convinced her to take the limo back. She had just finished showering and couldn't help but admire herself in bed.
