Labs around the world fought to isolate, contain and control the virus. The researchers risking their masculinity capturing specimens with the still active virus in their blood. The countering worries about contamination and further spread were battling against the prejudice and ignorance of the worried masses.
Each individual being susceptible to a different fear, a different interpretation of their own fear and paranoia. The various theories were incompatible, and vastly contradictory. Some blaming the billionaires, others the right or left wing, depending on their own political views. Many suspected particular nations (enemy and their own), religions (lack of faith in their own, and equally others for corrupting with perverse science), or even Alien contamination.
Naturally, there was no evidence for any of the theories. The best DNA splicing and analysis found no trace of Alien or divive interference. However, that couldn't quiet worried spirits.

The best break-through that could be developed would delay the transformation. Once infected, the transformation would be inevitable, and irreversible.

Sadly, one team found they could only worsen the effects, of the virus.

A mutation rippled through the virus, and women were now equally vulnerable to further feminisation.
