Nega-Shantae gritted her teeth and growled at Risky,
"D-Damn you... y-you pathetic... fool..."
She appeared to be in a lot of pain; it was a hideous spectacle, and you were forced to watch it.
"Oh, you're still talking." Risky said with a grin on her face,
"Let's see how long that lasts."
Nega-Shantae muttered something incomprehensible as she put a hand on the floor, trying to stand back up.
But the moment she tried, she fell back down on her knees and gripped her head with her hand.
She groaned in pain and you watched as she began to change: her skin began adopting a darker shade, starting to go from grey to tan.
Her red hair started to become purple, and her purple clothes started to become red.
You realized that, whatever Risky had done, it was turning Shantae back to normal, which was good...
However, why did Risky help her nemesis? Wasn't this what she had planned all along in the fourth game?
She mentioned she wanted back 'what was hers', but what did that exactly mean?
You watched as, before the eyes of you and the pirate captain, Shantae ultimately went back to normal completely.
The only trace left of Nega-Shantae were her yellow eyes, which locked on your form for a moment before fading, replaced by Shantae's blue eyes, which remained open for a few seconds, before closing while the half-genie fell face-first to the floor.
She lost consciousness.
"Shantae..." you murmured.
Behind you, Risky Boots began laughing.
"That little brat was no match for me!" she boasted.
The weird feeling that had been dwelling within her was starting to fade, and she realized that the pistol indeed did its job: Risky's dark magic was starting to get back, once more surrounding its owner.
You noticed that her skin, which was of a slightly lighter shade than you remembered, was becoming blue again and a cold feeling pervaded you.
What was happening...?
"I bet you're wondering what's happening, Cabin Boy," Risky spoke to you,
"Well, here's your answer: the dark magic your genie friend was covered in came back to me, thus turning this brat-" Risky paused to shoot the fainted Shantae a look of disdain,
"... Back to normal."
"... Why didn't it affect me?"
"Huh?"
"Why didn't it work on me?" you repeated,
"You hit me as well!"
Risky Boots began laughing.
"Simple. You possess no form of magic whatsoever. That's why the process had no effect on you. There was no dark magic to turn into light, and there was no light magic to turn into dark." she explained.
You didn't reply and just stared at Shantae, wondering what was next.
"I'm tempted to finish this runt off right here and now, but that would only spoil the fun of when she wakes up and finds that I've won again!" Risky bellowed, before turning the hand that held you so that you were facing her; she gave you a smile,
"So, ready to get back on board, Cabin Boy?" she teased.
"I-" you never gave your answer: with a snicker, Risky began walking towards the exit of the half-genie's half-destroyed room.
She stopped by the door to pick up the sword she had lost before and sheathed it back into her belt, before approaching the door.
A moan coming from behind her caused her to stop and look back: Shantae had a hand on the floor and was slowly recovering.
The half-genie rose her head in a slow fashion and blinked, seeing blurry figures that eventually took on a shape, allowing her to see...
"R-Risky..." she stammered, feeling extremely weak.
It took her way quicker to wake up this time, you mused. Perhaps, the corruption kept her unconscious for longer back then?
"Hmph. So you're awake already, runt?" Risky teased, though not wanting to pick a fight with Shantae; her latest battle had left her very weak as well and she felt pain in the points Nega-Shantae hit. If she was to battle right now, she wasn't sure she could have the upper hand, even though the same half-genie was pretty roughed up, too.
"W-Where's-" Shantae paused for a moment to inhale, before speaking your name as she tried to rise up on a knee. It took her a lot of effort to do so, and she had to keep her balance by pressing her hand on the floor.
Risky Boots began cackling, elated by her second victory over the half-genie... in the same day.
"He's right here." she said, turning around; her fist disclosed and she picked you with two fingers by the scruff of your shirt, mockingly dangling you in front of Shantae.
"Have a good look, then say goodbye to him!" the pirate mocked further.
"No..." Shantae wheezed while rising her head, making eye contact with you, noticing you staring at her in a pleading manner; the last thing you wanted was to go back on Risky's ship, where you would surely be fated to more demeaning tasks for the captain's pleasure.
"I won't... let you... take him..."
The pirate snickered and took a step back, nearly tripping: her knee hurt where she was hit by Nega-Shantae.
She had to get back on her ship, fast.
"Then come and get him, runt." she mocked, getting ready to make her exit. She just wanted to see Shantae struggling to even get up.
The half-genie tried to stand but, alas, she fell back down onto her knees.
This made Risky chuckle again.
"So long, brat..." she said, though you could tell she was just as exhausted as Shantae was.
Turning around, the pirate captain stumbled to the door, intent on leaving the lighthouse...
"No..." you heard Shantae's voice one last time,
"Give him... give him back!"
Risky ignored her.
"Wait!"
The pirate looked down at you.
"What now?" she said sternly.
You glared right back at her.
"You said that the winner of that last fight would've kept me, no?" you recalled. You had a feeling it wasn't going to work, but if it served at least to buy Shantae some time to get up, you were willing to try,
"Shantae won back then." you pointed out.
"Bah!" Risky sneered,
"You really expect me, ME, to stay loyal to a deal? Don't set your hopes too high, silly Cabin Boy."
"But-"
"One more word and this brat here will get your corpse back." Risky interrupted, quickly shutting you up.
Shantae gasped.
"Don't hurt him!" she yelled, once more trying to stand. She had to rescue you, she had to!
Risky shot her a devilish smile in response, before she turned as she began leaving...
