The car ride was awkward, as to have been expected. Chris had been up far too recently, for the funeral, and once he heard how bad business had gotten after, he had to do something. Both just for family, but also because he couldn't stand idly by and let something that Sam loved get destroyed. There wasn't much talk apart from pleasantries.
The arrival at the house was the same level of awkwardness. Aunt Michelle and Uncle Bob lived above the restaurant in the middle of town, it always made the most sense to them, since they had loved their work so much, that they'd stay close. But being relatively small, there was limited available space. Which meant that there was only one room for Chris to stay in.
"We're sorry about this, but we don't have any guest rooms." Aunt Michelle said as she helped take Chris' bags into Sam's room. "I know it might be hard..."
"I can't stay there, it should stay untouched. I'll just sleep on the couch." Chris insisted.
"No, no." Uncle Bob said. "Sam wouldn't have wanted us to keep a shrine. She'd want her room to go to good use. We didn't clear her things out, but..."
"It's not a problem at all. Actually, it might be nice to be reminded of her and the good times we had." Chris said.
Chris moved his bags into the room and set them down, looking around the room. It was mostly similar to how it had been when they were kids, but with some mature flairs to it. Her computer was still there, too. Chris delicately placed it into a drawer as he started to unpack his things.
He was likely going to be there for a while, since not only were his aunt and uncle losing their joy of running the business, but the people in town were equally disinterested in eating at the restaurant since Sam died, and Chris was determined to get them back into the booths and tables.
