Chapter #6

Cursed Pirates

Eve turned toward Briar and noticed her quickly wiping away a bit of Drool.
“Briar?” Eve asked curiously.
“Sorry, raiding makes me…hungry.” Briar said slowly. Eve simply shrugged and waited for Briar to finish tying the bonds of their newest prisoner. Eve stepped forward, grabbed another couple vials of healing potion, then hauled up the unconscious captain of the ship her and her crew now owned.
“Huh, light even for a lady. Anyway, see to the rest of the crew Briar. Make sure they don't try and filch anything. Damn ship will know.” Eve said, as she carried the unconscious captain Dalia back to her ship.

It took Eve only a moment to reach her cabin on the Dragon's Curse. She dropped her captive into a ruby circle in the middle of her room. Tying the ropes that bound her captive to a set of pitons in the floor. A few minutes passed as she waited, idly gathering a few objects from around her cabin. Finally she heard Dalia stir, the woman groggily rose from the floor and let out a grunt when she realized she was bound.

“Welcome aboard the Dragon’s Curse. I’m Evelyn Silvern, Captain of this fine vessel. To whom do I have the honor of addressing?” Eve asked as she set out a gold bowl and began to fill it with mercury.
“Dalia Stron’kir. Captain of the Oystergull. What do you want, Evelyn?” Dalia asked back.
“A lot of things. Freedom mostly, power a close second. But ultimately I just want to ease my friend’s burdens.” Eve said as she added a bit of black powder to the mercury in the bowl. Dalia watched as something strange happened. The silver fluid turned an eerie luminescent green.
“A mage? But that doesn’t make sense, if you have the gift why are you out on the sea’s. A mage doesn-” Dalia started to ponder aloud as Eve cut her off.
“Not a mage, I just happen to know a few secrets. Now allow me to explain your situation Captain Dalia.” Eve said, waiting for Dalia to respond. Dalia in turn simply nodded and waited for Eve to continue.
“Oh you are an absolute pearl. I really hope this works for you.” Eve said.
“Hope what works?” Dalia said suspicious of her captor's efforts.

Eve didn’t answer at first. Instead she completed her task at hand, lighting a candle that seemed to be composed of silver and gold wax. She set it into the center of the gold bowl and drew a jewel encrusted knife from her belt. She then grabbed Dalia’s face and made a gentle cut along her cheek. Letting some of the blood drip into the bowl. The candle’s flame began to flicker and burn even brighter. Worry began to show clearly on Dalia’s face. She knew magic when she saw it, and magic that involved blood was never a good thing. She looked back up to Eve and noted just how impressively tall the pirate captain was. She hadn’t remembered her being so imposing when they fought, but looking at her now she looked like she might have been as tall as most men. Even crouched down and Dalia heard the leather of captains legging begin to creak.
“Leviathans jewels, what are you?” Dalia asked, staring at the seams of Eve’s leggings. They looked like if the woman flexed hard enough they might begin to pop.
“I’m you’re new captain. Tell me do you know of the story of Obsidia the Drake King?” Eve asked.
“The fairy tale? I vaguely recall it, that the greedy dragon crossed a pirate lord, who in turn made a ship out of his hide. Don’t recall all the details, but I know it doesn’t end well for the pirate.” Dalia said wearily.
“Indeed, the ship they made was cursed. One night it trapped the crew and its hulls, dove beneath the waves and killed everyone aboard. Taking their treasure to the lightless depths.” Eve added.
“And this is relevant because?” Dalia asked nervously.
“A few years ago, my crew and I were salvagers. Not a lot of respect being a woman in the salvage business. So we decided to prove our worth. We went treasure hunting, found the cursed ship of the Drake King. Then we made the fool decision of claiming it. Once you set foot on that cursed vessel your fate is sealed.” Eve said, smiling as the light around the two women seemed to dim. Dalia noted Eve’s smile, warm and showing all her teeth, yet off. Something about the way her lips curled to high at the corners, how her canines seemed just a little offset. Dalia looked around and noted that at some point the windows to the cabin had closed, though she didn’t recall hearing anyone else moving around, or shutting them.

“This is bluff. You’re just trying to scare me into joining your crew. Not a mage, so this is what, alchemy? You think a little light show and spooky story will make me team up with you and your ilk? Just kill me and get it over with.” Dalia said. Eve’s grin widened to what looked like painful proportions.
“Oh tis no bluff Dalia. I need crew mates, lessens the pain, makes the burden easier to bear for all of us.” Eve said, rising back to her full height and cutting her hand.
“What burden, what pain, what are you doing?!” Dalia panicked and tried to back away. Eve simply held her hand tightly. Feeling the blood welling up in her palm. She recited the words of her curse.

The Devil's due owed in full
The Drakes maw has my soul
The Thief Lord’s pride now my tool
While Blood and Gold stoke the coals
Greed must fill the belly below
Lest we to Hell’s dark depths go

Eve released the pressure on her palm and let her blood flow into the golden bowl below. Too late Dalia realized the pirate was being sincere in her efforts. Dalia lunged forward, snapping to a sudden stop as she pulled against her restraints. The two women watched as the blood hit the bowl and the candle seemed to devour the fluid around it, the wax bubbling and glowing. A moment later the flame turned bright pink, burning with such blinding intensity that Dalia had to close her eyes. That was worrying enough, Eve’s reaction didn’t make it any better.

“What the hell?! That’s not supposed to happen, it's supposed to burn black, what in the-” Eve was cut off by the candle suddenly exploding. The entire ship rocked and Eve could hear the alarmed screams of her crew above. There was the sudden sound of Dalia’s restraints snapping, and Eve looked up. Dalia looked nearly as shocked as she did, but she didn’t waste her opportunity. She charged Eve and tackled her to the ground. The two women wrestled back and forth, rolling around the cabin while shouts continued to resound from above. Eve finally regained her senses and moved to throw Dalia off her, pulling up her knees and putting them on Dalia’s stomach she kicked with all her might. To her surprise the other girl went flying, to her embarrassment she heard her leggings tear. Standing up she felt her lower garments fall away from her.

“Dammit, I told Jade not to make these so damn tight. I don’t care if it distracts every male we fight, it's a pain to actually fight in.” Eve said, rising to her feet and letting out a huff. As she did she felt her blouse pop open. Across the room Dalia rose to her feet as well.
“Captain, I’m getting mixed messages here.” Dalia said smiling. Then she felt her own blouse tear, she looked down and realized Eve must have damaged it with her kick. Shrugging she shed the blouse and buttoned up her armored coat.
“And you’re accusing me of seduction? Look at those tits, you belong in a red light district.” Eve said as she moved towards her door.
“Aw running away Evelyn? Afraid of a fair fight?” Dalia said as she grabbed a pistol from Eve’s desk.
“You put that gun down and I’ll show you a fair fight.” Eve said. Much to her surprise Dalia obliged.

No one could say what happened next, what Dalia’s master plan was. Perhaps she didn’t have one, perhaps she just wanted to knock a few teeth loose from the skull of the woman who murdered her crew and taken her life’s dreams. No one could have told you why Eve actually reengaged Dalia in a fight that quickly degraded into a wrestling match, perhaps it was her pride, perhaps it was just the frustration of knowing Dalia had technically bested her in their previous engagement. What could be told however came from the shout of Eve’s first mate. As she opened the Cabin door, accompanied by a handful of crew mates. Only to see her captain currently entwined, and nearly naked, with another woman.

“Dammit Captain! Every time, EVERY TIME! Are your clothes allergic to fighting or something?!” Briar shouted as she moved to pull Dalia off of Eve.
“She started it, she fucked up my ritual!” Eve screamed. That caught the crew's attention.
“So that’s what that was, but if she screwed it up, why did it feel so, uh good?” Sally asked.
“I’m sorry what?” Eve replied. Finally noting the state of undress a good portion of her crew was in.
"Why are you all dressed like, you know what never mind. Detain this bitch, tell Jade and the Doc to get over here. Something weird is afoot, and I personally am inclined to blame this damned cursed ship." Eve said
