Chapter #59The Abyss is Sexy by: Hole “This is your secret place?”
“Yeah. There’s not a single person around. I can tell since I’m psychic.”
“I think it’s more because we’re in the vacuum of space.”
Currently, the two of you were in the dark void of space in clear space suits, tethered to the station and talking through radios.
“Yeah. There’s no one around to listen in on us. Because sound doesn’t travel in space.”
“I guess that’s true.” It was very generous of Ava to not assume people were listening in or recording over the radios. Not that YOU thought such, it was just out of character for Ava to not suspect it herself.
“I spend a lot of time out here. Just me. No noises. No people. No thoughts about how weird I am and no one wants to talk to me.”
“What was that?”
“Hey! You wanna see something cool?” Ava asks, not at all changing the topic.
“Sure, what is it?” you ask.
“Out here in space, there’s less interference between us and the Greater Void.”
The greater void? You heard that refer to space in general from some people. “You mean space?”
“No, the Greater Void. The void beyond the void. Where the Void Gods reside. The ones who predate the universe itself, and witnessed its very creation. All living things have a connection to it. And psychics are able to tap into it, and a select few among them are able to go into the Greater Void itself and meet the Void Gods.”
“Oh. I learned about them in science class,” you say. “Though the professor said they were called Eldritch Entities by the scientific community.”
“Yup! Wanna see them?”
“Uh… Don’t they cause madness for anyone who-”
“It’ll be fine! I see them all the time.”
Before you could argue further, Ava takes your hand and you both start glowing purple. You realize she’s dragging you into the Greater Void, or at least your mind. Slowly the stars faded from the sky, the planet earth faded from vision, and the nearby Space School Academy Station disappeared from view. All that was left was the darkness, the absence of anything. And then…
A single great yellow eye looked down on you. It was larger than you or Ava. You looked into it and with it saw the great expanse of everything that existed.
“Well, well, well,” a new, smooth, yet authoritative voice spoke. It paralyzed you once it touched your ears. “A new interloper into the Greater Void. My my, it seems more mortals become more audacious by the eon. Very well, little insect. I guess I can at least grant you the right of introductions. I am the obscure, the unutterable. I am the Crawling Chaos. When mortals push into the unknown, I am what pushes back. You can call me-”
“Ms. Nyan Nyan! Hi, it’s me again!” Ava yelled.
The eye turned to the smaller human. Then it became half-lidded. “Oh… It’s you,” the voice said with exhaustion.
“Hey, I wanna introduce you to my new friend, Shujiko. Shujiko, this is Ms. Nyan Nyan. I hang out with her sometimes.”
“Without invitation, might I add,” Nyan Nyan added as promised.
“Anyway, Shujiko has MAJOR info about the state of the universe! Something I bet not even YOU know,” Ava audaciously declared.
“Like how I ‘didn’t know’ about the Voidworm or the Sasquatch? We already went over this. I knew about the Voidworm already, the Sasquatch you saw was just a hairy human who got lost in the woods.”
“This is different! It’ll completely turn your viewpoint upside-down!”
“Upside-down is a feeble mortal concept.”
“Metaphorically! Tell her, Shujiko,” Ava demanded.
Unfortunately, you were too paralyzed from your own mortal weakness to talk to this elder god.
“Come oooon! Tell her!” Ava pleaded.
“She’s not going to. She’s paralyzed in fear of me, a being she can only see a small shard of. This happens with literally everyone you bring here.”
“Nuh uh! She’s not scared! She’s turned on!”
“... What?” The eye squinted in your direction. “Holy… This woman’s thoughts are vile! She wants my voice to- How’re not disturbed by them?”
“Eh, I don’t judge what people are into.”
“Some of these fantasies involve you too.”
“Yeah, I figured.”
“Eugh! Why do mortals keep getting weirder.”
“You’re lucky she can only register your eye and voice. Imagine if she could see your head. Or even your upper body like me!”
The eye seemed to shudder. “Alright, you brought a lot of strange people here, Ava, but this is too much. Out! Both of you!”
“No, wait!”
Then you’re back in the starry void of space, tethered to the space station again. “Woah,” you said. Not too much more insane than you were before.
“Aw, we didn’t get to tell her about your wish,” Ava said sadly.
“Hm, well… I don’t think she would’ve liked to hear it. Either that or she already knows,” you say. “But, how often do you see her?”
“Every month or so? It takes a lot of energy to get into the Greater Void. But once in, she’s always the first one to see me. Though she does eventually kick me out, usually.”
“Huh. Psychics are cool.”
“We are, aren’t we? You want me to keep secret the fact you were turned on by a Void God?”
“Nah, my reputation is already in line with that. Wanna go out some time again?”
“Sure!”
And with that, a new addition to your harem is acquired.
