"It'll just disconnect my spirit from my body!" said Drif.
"WHAT." The word sprang from Melona's lips without emotion or intonation. The concept had taken her entirely off-guard.
"What?" asked Drif. "What do you think astral projection is? This is norma--nor--no--" Drif began to waver. "Wow, my vision is--hey Melona--maybe--oh fuck--help?"
With that, Drif collapsed. Melona rushed forward, keeping her friend's head from smacking into the stone floor by mere inches.
"Drif? Drif! Drif!" Melona shook her friend, trying not to scream. Drif was lifeless in her hands, her breathing slow and shallow. "Oh gods, Drif why would you do that?" Melona plunged her head down, planting her ear against Drif's bony chest. The sound of the unconscious alchemist's heartbeat and gentle breathing provided a calming reassurance.
Melona tried to steady her thoughts. "Okay, just think," she said to herself. "Drif's still alive. Maybe she's still conscious. Maybe--oh gods I need to get her to the nurse's office!"
