Chris smoothed his suit jacket as he stood up from his desk. Adjusted his tie, logged off from his computer, and began the easy walk from his office to the parking lot.
“See you tomorrow, Claire.” He called to the receptionist as he made his way to the front entrance and out to the odd collection of cars still in the lot.
At 5’11” and a respectable 165lbs, Chris Smith felt like his life was on an upward track. The black SUV with an extensive upgrade package, the bespoke suit, the Italian shoes, all afforded by his job as director of R&D Acquisitions at Contemporary Technologies (ConTech for short). Sure, he wasn’t as well off as his twin sister, but things were going well so far.
The tires of his SUV stirred up the gravel path to his parents house as he parked. His sister’s Bentley absent.
“Probably running late.” He mused.
Walking through the threshold, he spotted his mother busily setting places at the dining room table.
“Hey Mom, Alex running late?”
“Chris! So good to see you! Come here hun.” His mother’s smile spreading wide as she gave him a hug.
“Lexxi called a few minutes ago, she’s finally on her way over.”
“Burning the midnight oil, huh?”
“Oh you know how it is, someone’s always late for their shift at McChubbies and she just HAS to cover for them.”
