The brothers began looking around when, not long after leaving the beach, Mario noticed a small village. Against Luigi's want, they went to investigate.
The place was covered in small, windowless houses. Mario kept going, thinking they had to come across someone eventually. Luigi kept turning like something was about to jump out at him.
"Greetings."
They both jumped at the voice which seemed to be coming from a strange, purple Toad.
"Hey, Toad." Mario greeted, trying to be brave for his brother. "Where are we?"
"If you want answers, you'll have to complete the first game and escape the room."
The door behind the Toad creaked open, terrifying Luigi even more.
Mario took a breath and marched forward, confident that he and his brother could deal with any threat or puzzle they were to face.
Luigi refused to go anywhere near the tiny house, until Mario was stepping inside.
"Mamma!" he screamed, running towards his older brother.
After getting inside, the door slammed shut behind him. Luigi tried opening the door, only to find it locked.
"Mario?" he asked, looking around the dark room. "Mario?!"
"Luigi?" the brother asked after realising the door was locked. "Luigi, were are you?"
Despite entering only a second apart, that single second was enough for the room to shift. The brothers were on their own. Or so they assumed.
