Chapter #6

A Kinder Approach

by: John Johnny Johnson Author IconMail Icon
"I'd appreciate if you could stop that, please." He spoke with a certain amount of pain, as though he had been suffering under Sherlock's watchful eye.

"I understand. My apologies." My companion seemed to have picked up something from the hurt tone, yet chose not to vocalise it.

"Thanks you." The pain in his voice now giving way to relief. "I come from Gomorrah Island, I assume you've heard of it?"

"Indeed. On island off the coast of New York, where criminals were sent to live out life sentences. Instead of dying, they formed their own society and eventually rejoined with those who shunned their ancestors. I have heard some extraordinary tales of the impossible there, as of late."

"Not as impossible as you'd think." He reached across as to shake Holmes's hand, only for his fingers to elongate into claws similar to that of a sloth. I'm not sure how it was possible, but I managed to not drop my cup.

"There was a nasty disease, and those who didn't die got changed. I managed to find a cure, but not many people are willing to come visit. For obvious reasons."

"I see. And, for what reason have you come to me?"

"Some of us have started dying. Bullets, knives, poisons, every way that indicates someone without powers is doing it. I've tried sorting it out myself, but I'm getting nowhere. And the mainland isn't willing to help out of fear."

After a very long moment of silence, Shelock grabbed his coat and accepted. I was going to protest about going to this place of unnatural creatures, but the look in his eye told me I would only waste my breath. Within the hour, we were on a boat heading for New York. From there, Janus would help us go to the island I wish I had never heard of.

"Now, my most extraordinary friend, we have a few days journey ahead of us. Why don't you clarify some things?"
