The Portal to Phyrexia creates a portal to the ...

The Phyrexian player, wearing a heavy coat obscuring much of his body, revealed a device from his pocket, slamming it into the Solid Vision interface. Bright silver metal began spreading across the interface, down towards the field, over the Phyrexian player and moving out from the Portal.

“We should run,” Rita said, her eyes wide as from the portal, a huge metallic centipede like beast emerged and moved outside of the bounds of the holograms and towards the audience. As it got close, it opened its mouth and liquid metal flowed out over the front row, causing them to scream in terror.

Frederica and Rita ran in the opposite direction as the audience members that were sprayed stood up, their eyes glowing with purple light.

They ran out into the hallways of the arena and toward the exit, followed by the majority of the audience. As they were running down the corridor, they were both grabbed from the side and pulled into a side room. Predictably, they tried to scream, but hands were placed over their mouths.

“Quiet! Do you want the Phyrexians to locate us?”

They stared at the man in white robes and goggles as if he was insane. He sighs.

“My name is Pegasus Max. I created the Solid Vision System (SVS). I’m here because I noticed a discrepancy in the code and wanted to fix it. I told them it would be better not to run the event until I could fix it, but nobody listened to me. Now it’s not code anymore. The other realms. They’re real, and they’ve found a way to enter ours.”

He continued hurriedly as he saw the disbelieving horror on the teen girl’s faces.
“Fortunately, I think they need the solid vision system to exist in our world. Which means they can only spread so far.”

“How far is that? The stadium?” Frederica asked, hopefully

“The city,” Pegasus said “And that’s assuming they can’t expand that.”

“You’re not helping reassure me,” Rita said, barely keeping from having a panic attack.

“How about these?” Pegasus threw what appeared to be a metallic box at Frederica which she barely caught “Put your deck in there. Commander or commanders go in the secondary slot.”

Frederica barely caught the box which was surprisingly light. She found a magnetic clip for attaching to her waist, and the box had room for 99 cards.

Her hands shaking, she pulled out her deck, slotting her deck into the first slot while her commander went in the second.

As soon as her commander, Zimone, All Questioning, went into the command slot, the box lit up and 7 holograms of cards appeared in-front of her.

At the same time, a woman appeared next to her. She had dark skin and even darker hair, and wore glasses which she adjusted as she looked at Frederica. Her green and blue robes and calculating expression gave Frederica no doubt that she was looking at Zimone, in the flesh. Or as close as she could get.

The human wizard nodded to Frederica.
“Thank you for taking my advice. I would rather not be controlled by one of the infected.”

Frederica stared, which caused Zimone to roll her eyes.
“It’s not like you’ve never seen me before. I’ve been in your deck and defending you when you call upon me for years. I may not be the strongest, but my mastery of math is, as they say, prime.”

Frederica snorted, putting a hand over her mouth to stop herself from laughing. This was not the time.

Pegasus had handed Rita her own deck device and she was attempting to slot her own deck and commander into it. Her hands shook too much to do so, however.

Frederica helped her friend secure her deck and commander, and a moment later, they were joined by another human, though very different than the first. She had lighter skin than Zimone, but unlike Zimone, she was dressed for war with a breastplate on her chest and a red feathered helm on her head. Below her waist, she was clothed in traditional hides, decorated with feathers and various plants.

Frederica recognised the woman as Atla Palani, Nest Tender. Rita’s commander.

“How does all this work?” Rita murmured “I heard your voice in the arena, but this looks far more advanced than what we saw there.”

“That’s an explanation we don’t have time for,” Pegasus said

“Right,” Frederica nodded “Anything we should know about fighting these Phyrexians? I want to save anyone we can.”

“Until you engage them, you have prep turns similar to the Horde format,” Pegasus said “Be wary, though, that playing cards attracts their attention, so you probably won’t get more than three or four prep rounds at most. Take these spare deck devices. If the Phyrexians manage to corrupt them, you may need to switch devices.”

“Understood,” Frederica said “Are you ready, Rita?”
