The kids made their way to a large doorway, where they awaited to be entered.
An old, strict looking woman in robes came forward. She gave the impression that she was not to be crossed.
"Welcome to Hogwarts."
Giljaras listened as Professor McGonagall explained how the students were sorted into one of four houses, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin, each which its own storied history.
"So its true then, what they're saying on the train. That Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts."
Giljaras turned to face a sneering blonde boy with slicked back blonde hair flanked by two larger kids, who by the looks of them had a combined IQ of 17, address Harry. Giljaras knew the type; rich kid, spoiled and one who thought he was entitled to everything; though to be fair, Giljaras as the son of ambassadors hadn't exactly been roiling in poverty either. He didn't like the way the red headed kid had tried to make fun of his name, nor did he like how Draco reacted afterwards to disparage the red headed kid Weasley, and then but Harry on the spot to pick and choose who he was supposed to be friends with. However, he found himself content to watch, as he decided it was better not to stand out too much so early in his tenure as a student.
Giljaras feared that a fight was about to break out as Harry found himself in an extremely uncomfortable position. Though he had not really paid attention to the books, Melchior had done most of the reading, he did know enough that Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy were to become real rivals. He could see the seeds of animosity forming, and Giljaras thought that he could perhaps do something about that, if for no other reason to ensure that Malfoy, Harry and Weasley could all save face.
"Um... hey guys, you don't have to fight or make fun of each other's names like that."
Harry, Weasley and Malfoy's expressions turned to each other, "First of all, I think Draco is a awesome name actually. It reminds me of dragons," said Giljaras.
Draco seemed to blink in surprise, perhaps expecting a further insult.
"And uh... Draco, you don't have to insult Weasley either for how he looks or his family, even though he might have laughed at your name," said Giljaras.
The pair glared at him, and Giljaras was now the one who was put on the spot. Yet it was Harry who stepped forward, who while he seemed that he appreciated Giljaras' attempts to play peacemaker, was not about to let Malfoy clown him.
"Thank you for trying to calm things down, but I think I can sort out the wrong sort for myself," said Harry at Malfoy. Giljaras slapped his forehead as Malfoy glared at him, obviously humiliated by the encounter.
Professor McGonagall finally returned, "Come with me," she said, leading the students into the Great Hall.
When Giljaras entered the Great Hall, he could not help but be in awe. Everything from the lighting, to the intricately decorated walls, to the tables, it simply oozed magic. Giljaras had seen the Grand Temple of Draconia, with its majesty and overpowering aura, but there was simply so much to see. He definitely wasn't the only 11 year old who was slackjawed, as the others, while hearing of the majesty of Hogwarts from their parents and older siblings, could not compare to the real experience.
There were a lot of other students, mostly older students, arranged in large long tables and all clad in robes. They all looked so big, and scary, but also friendly in a way.
As it turned out, getting sorted into Houses did not turn out to be the complicated struggle that he had feared.
"Wait a second, all we have to do is put on a hat?" the kid named Ron Weasley said, "I'll kill Fred, he was going on about wrestling a troll!"
One by one, the names of the students were called out by the hat. It took only a second for Malfoy to be sorted into Slytherin, while Weasley was sorted into Gryffindor. Hermione Granger, the smart but surprisingly pretty girl, was sorted into Gryffindor also. For a while, Giljaras wondered if his name was going to be called; after all he had only arrived on very short notice.
"Giljaras Dragoner!" came the next name.
Giljaras came forward, taking a deep breath as all eyes were on him.
"Ah, now this is something I've never seen before. Hmmm difficult, very difficult indeed. You'd make a fair Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, but you have power, great power unlike anything I've ever seen. I sense that you will be great."
Giljaras honestly did not have a preference, if for no other reason that he didn't understand the context of the rivalries of the houses against each other. They were all students in the end, weren't they?
