With a fluid motion that caused his muscles to ripple and flex beneath his tight uniform, the gigantic exterminator walked toward Mr. Smith's kitchen counter. The kitchen's so often a hiding place for all sorts of pests, so he was being very thorough.
He just hadn't counted on anyone else being home when he made his monthly maintenance stoop.
He had no idea of the jaw-dropping awe and unmitigated terror that his few simple strides across the room caused the tiny, unseen owner of the home.
The shrunken scientist had dashed across the tiles making a direct line toward his teenaged neighbor. No matter what, he needed to prevent Tommy leaving with the package that contained the precious antidote.
"Without that, I'm screwed," the bug-sized scientist realized in desperation.
Despite his good start, however, his progress came to a screeching halt when Carlos in his gigantic work boots stomped across the floor.
When one of the massive shoes stomped down hard on the floor, the kitchen tile beneath the tiny man's feet shook from great force. The shock wave caused him to fall, sprawled out on the unforgiving tile.
Then, without any appreciable time to recover, the little man had to contend with another of the massive boots slamming down. This time, the huge, black boot slammed down even closer, and a blast of displaced air tossed the shrunken man bodily through the air to land closer to Tommy.
Looking up at his colossal teenaged neighbor, the little man saw that Tommy's hand was poised to open the back door.
"Dammit," he screamed. He got back onto his feet and tore off toward the massive teenager. "Stop! Don't go!" He screamed. "Please, wait!"
Before he left, however, Tommy had one last question for Carlos.
"So, is it going to be safe to come back in here in a few hours?"
He had promised to water Mr. Smith's plants, but he really just wanted a place to hang out with his buddies that lacked parental supervision.
"Oh, sure," Carlos said. He squirted a stream of toxin beneath the base of the kitchen counter and cabinets. "This stuff won't harm anything but bugs."
The two titans remained on the move, which presented a daunting problem for the tiny, unnoticed man at their feet.
"Please, look down!" Mr. Smith begged.
"Well, catch you later," Tommy said. The teenager pulled open the back door and headed toward the post office.
Carlos was about finished when he spied a pale little creature near the massive back door. Perhaps some little pest that had scurried into the house during Tommy's departure.
