This is a matter-of -fact aging story of Henry. It reflects the drastic changes brought on by time as a person advances in years and retreats in health and strength. The events in this story might have taken place in reality as well, except for the burglar incident. Yet, there are people who have little sense of ethics to have taken advantage of an old, weak person.

The note of resignation dominates the story. Henry is understandably indifferent to things that surround him, either the condition of his "simple home" or his dog that wouldn't do its duty.
Another aspect that stands out is the attitude of the large man, who looted Henry of his gold teeth. He has no human feelings for a fellow human being. Selfishness rules him and so he forgets to think of what happens to him in his own old age.

The story made me think of the way an old man is left in the open to die a lonely death. Where are his friends and relatives and his family mostly. If the sons and daughters do not care for their aging parents this is what happens to them.

I don't know if I read way too many things between the lines. These are just my thoughts.
