Introductions

Writing.Com is a place to come and participate. After joining, it quickly becomes obvious that those who interact with others have the best experience here, learn the most, and hopefully feel not only seen as writers, but also grow in the skills and breadth.

Many members have been here for many years, so there are people who have "insider" jokes or shared memories from events here on the site or from real life. It can feel daunting to enter, but it really shouldn't be.

Every single member started out as a Newbie. Finding your writing niche within the site takes a little bit of effort, but not as much as you may fear.

The best way to get started to (virtually) meet new friends here is to read through all of the emails that come automatically throughout the first weeks of your membership. Try out some of the suggestions. Learn the site specific WritingML Help. Get noticed on the Newsfeed by posting links to your work and even links to things you've seen in other places on the internet that pertain to writing and that you would like to discuss.

Your first post doesn't have to be an essay about your whole life, but maybe a little something about you, why you chose your handle, which country or continent you're in. What fascinates you about the process of writing. What is your writing process and why does it work for you. Include a question that can be answered. Or a call to action to read and review one of your pieces.

One other great way to become more visible is to send out reviews to fellow members. While it's not okay to use the review function to only advertise your own writing, it's okay if you send a constructive review and use the greeting at the top or bottom to introduce yourself. If you like the other person's writing, it's likely that they can become a writing buddy for you.

So, go ahead. Show yourself. Let the community get to know you.

Do you know all of the places where you can introduce yourself?
