A ramble about all of the things I would like to do but don't do because there are too many things to do. I mean, how to pick things when you have so many options. Plus, a happy birthday wish for WDC. |

The first week of September is a very busy one here on WDC. Most of us are celebrating the site's birthday, which means there are many contests and activities. Story Master and Story Mistress are both super busy. We get new features during this week and often more emoticons to use for expressing things and making contests forums and group pages looking good. Reviews get paid more gift points and there are merit badges flying around. With all of the options, it can be a challenge to pick what to take part in and some might even try to do everything.
If you can enter everything and review up a storm, hats off to you. And I mean all of my hats including the ones I use for drag shows. My sparkly cowboy hat in particular. Hats off!
For the rest of us, we have to make some decisions. Do you do reviews? What group activity should you do the reviews for and who do you link for the credits? Do you try to review a newbie? What about contest entries?
The activities are a good option to look at first. There are many. The review is one thing and you will notice there is very much a good incentive to review the first week of September as part of celebrating WDC. It's nit the only type of challenge, however, that isn't a contest. Blogging is another thing you can do this week. In fact, any of the achievement badges are things you can do this week in part of celebrating. You have coming to the site every day. Writing a review every day. Posting a blog every day. Commenting on newsfeed every day. Posting in a forum every day. If you enter contests you can do the forum one. If you take part in a blog challenge, you will have prompts for each day to blog. This week will be very helpful and I predict many of us will be getting those achievement badges for at least one week.
Then there are the contests. Writer's Cramp has a special week going on for WDC birthday and the prompts are every day, as usual. The official contest for the month that is managed by the site and judged by moderators is looking for comedy stories. I have two contests that are up on the WDC Party Central (self promotion, yes) and there are others who have also pitched in to do special rounds this week and month in dedication to WDC.
Part of the decisions will depend on what you like to write. I do recommend branching out and trying something different if you haven't done it already. There are poetry options along with the short story, blogs and longer story contests. Many options exist this month. Take a look at the different prompts, see what brings you inspiration, and find a way to pick. It will be hard to enter everything while also having a real life offline. So, pick the priority ones and have some on the side if you have spare time to add more. Whatever you do, have fun and enjoy the time here on WDC. The site that has been around for us writers with the obvious site name for 25 years.
So, the last thing I will say here this time is different than my usual prod on you to write. Instead, we're going to say this:
Happy Birthday WDC!

How do you decide what to do when there are too many options?
Back in June, the topic that I wrote for this newsletter had to do with the act of protesting. Here is a comment sent on that subject:
Comment by Elisa, Stik-or-Treat :
Oddly enough, a protest is how I close out one of my stories. It also has teens as the main characters. One of these days I'll do a full edit, but I feel like it is one of my strongest pieces in terms of how it has aged.
