a comment on some of americas ills

last night i heard america weeping
tears falling from spacious skies
rippling seas of homeless masses
reflected in pools of emptied eyes

last night i heard america weeping
tears from hunger's bitter taste
stomachs grumbling in their dreams
wealthy plates of plenty go to waste

last night i heard america weeping
tears tarnishing her shining glory
gangs warring in her streets
children dying from senseless violent stories

last night i heard america weeping
tears tracing lines from liberty's eyes
honoring her heros visions of peace
in eternal flames hope remains alive
