I wish you Jesus

I wrote this for the dedication of a friends firstborn son.

Joshua, your life has only just begun
And it’s still unknown who you will be or what you’ll do
But I know your life is precious so as you grow into a man
I want to make a wish especially for you

I could wish you fame and glory and the honour they would bring
And that life would always go your way you’d never need for anything
I could wish you greatness, success in all you do
But I want to wish you Jesus, that he’d be everything to you

I could wish you happiness, a life lived full and long
That you’d be popular and handsome and physically strong
I could wish you riches but I know that they will end
So I just wish you Jesus, to be your very special friend

He’ll know the steps you’ll make with every path you take
And as you grow he’ll be there too, He’s watching over you

I could wish you joy and peace, and days without a care
And lots of fun with lots of friends who always will be there
But the greatest wish within my heart is what I want to say
And that’s I wish you Jesus and that you’d know Him from this day
