I have had
all I can take
I do not have it in me
to break.

You have to go now
this chapter must close.
What is to come
there’s no way to know.

It doesn’t include “us”
or “we”
the future before
leaves both of us free.

Your path is not mine
Our roads do not cross.
For our hearts
this is our loss.

I am a rock.
You are a rock.
We cannot keep slamming
ourselves together.

I do not have it in me to break.

I will not let myself break.
