A young woman takes her place each night as keeper of the gate |
| Keeper Of The Gate The sun begins it’s steady descent, Into the desolate, western hills. Shadows grow long upon the ground, Hear the katydids and whippoorwills. As darkness comes to peaceful rest, Upon the old and weary who wait, There is one who won’t sleep tonight, She is the keeper of the gate. Night descends on the tranquil land, She obediently takes her place. Her delicate, silk clad, figure stands, Watching under the moon’s soft face. During the sunny light of day, She is locked away until late, Yet when the sun fades, they release her, And once again, she is keeper of the gate. |
