The avatar of a goddess approached, dancing towards Nick. |
Nick relented to the call of the music. The thrum of the bass and the beat of the drum animated his legs- slow, slow, quickquick- but the guitar and the singer's voice, rich and sweet like audible dessert, willing his body to move on his stool. Eyes on the dance floor, movement to his left, from the far corner caught his attention. Dark hair, soft, round face, slender but athletic body- the avatar of a goddess approached, danced towards him. Every step, every motion followed the music. Nick's mouth got very dry. Nick turned just enough on his stool to slap his hand down on the counter without ever taking his eyes off the goddess. He wasn't a regular at the club but the bartender caught on to what Nick was suggesting and handed him another shot. Without taking his eyes off the angel approaching, he guzzled down the hot tequila and slammed the glass down on the counter. He took a deep intake of air between his lips and closed teeth, sucking in his stomach and pushing out his muscular chest. He took one hand and ran his fingers through his wavy hair, brushing back any that might look out of place. As she came closer, his heart rate rose. He had never seen one so lovely, so angelic. Nick felt like a teenager with a crush on his high school French teacher. Butterflies fluttered in his stomach to the point he felt queasy. Nick's cheeks burned and he knew he had to be blushing. He had never been shy towards the opposite sex, but suddenly he didn't know how to react. The sparkle in her deep blue eyes seemed to say she only wanted him. Her smile seemed to suggest she saw no one else in the room as she glided by stranger after stranger, making her way towards him. He smiled back, knowing instantly he looked like a fool. Nick was now embarassed, something no woman had ever been able to do and this woman didn't even have to try. He looked down trying to regain his composure. By the time he looked back up to see her, she was there, ten feet from him. He felt sweat drip down on his upper lip. His foot that had been resting on the stool leg began to bounce uncontrolably. He tried to change his position before she noticed. Ten feet seemed like an eternity. Time seemed to slow almost to a halt. She was more beautiful the closer she got to him, more angelic with each step closer. His heart was in his throat by the time she was two feet from him. Nick could no longer hear the music in the background, only the thumping of his heart in his ear. His hands were sweaty and shaking. He wiped them on his jeans. He took rapid, deep breaths to keep himself from passing out. Finally she stopped right there in front of him. So close he was able to catch her scent and hold it in. She looked right into his eyes and smiled. He opened his lips to speak, he wanted to say something, any thing, but nothing came out. She stepped forward and he felt dizzy. He caught himself just before he slid off the stool. Her lips parted, words were on the tip of her tongue. Nick couldn't believe it! This goddess was gracing him with not only her presense, but was also looking for a conversation. She leaned forward and he closed his eyes and took in her scent once again. Lavender, he was sure of it. He held her scent in for a while before letting out his breath. He opened his eyes and smiled at her. "Good evening miss," he finally said, nodding his head in her direction. "Hi there, excuse me," she said, stretching over his lap, resting her elbows on the bar. "Can I get two screwdrivers at the table over there in the far corner? You see where that handsome guy in the suit is waving? Thank you so much," she replied, paying the bartender. She smiled at Nick as she stepped back, brushing against his arm and then she danced away, never looking back. |
