Love not returned

Something's in life
are hard to explain,
Unrequited love is one of them
it's filled with heartache and pain.

You think you've finally found someone
Who could make all your dreams come true,
Only to find out down the road
They weren't in love with you.

Darkness comes every night
It comes without a sound,
It seems to engulf a heart
When true love can't be found.

The days, they are so long
The hours just drag by,
Most of the time
All you want to do is sit and cry.

Yes I know of unrequited love
I've been there in my past,
But like most things in life
This too will not last.

There is a lesson to be learned
Right from the very start,
The next time be a little more choosy
With whom you give your heart.
