Will I ever love again?

For the Broken Hearts Poetry Contest.

Prompt:  Will I ever love again?


"Will I ever find someone to love again?"
I asked,looking deep into her hazel eyes.
Is there life after you?  Will it now begin?
Why must I care for you and why must I cry?

How did you get yourself deep under my skin?
It's the answer that I truly  need to know.
Should I have hidden from you, not let you in?
Why was it true love that you never could show?

The promises that you whispered in my ear,
and the love that I once felt inside my heart,
the one I thought would always save me from fear,
do you know how I felt when we had to part?

I truly wondered if I would love again,
if anyone could help to make me be whole.
I also hoped I would grow a thicker skin,
that I would find the missing piece to my soul.

I know that I will soon meet her; one fine day,
someone who will be the other half of me.
And I am hoping these few words I can say:
"I'll always love you, unconditionally."
