chapter two for 14/7/1

I got to the bar and ordered a diet coke and settled in for what I thought would be a long wait.  Five minutes later a door opened and in walked an elderly, graying and pudgy old man.  He was wearing a pair of dark jeans and a wolf sweater like mine, just like J.T. said he would be wearing.  He walked up to me and sat down at the table, right in front of me, and grasped ahold of my hand.  His hand felt all slimy and I wondered where he had been before he came here to see me.  "Everybody is watching you."

I could have sworn he had said something but I didn't even see his lips move. I decided to test him.  "Who is everybody?"

"Huh?  What do you mean, who is everybody?  Who are you talking to? I didn't say anything.  I'm here to give you the directions that J.T. left but I can come another time if you want. "

"No, no it's fine.  He told me I had to finish my chore in two weeks.  Not sure what he wants me to do though."

"All of the instructions are in here.  All you have to do is follow them to the letter and J.T. said that he would call you in a few weeks, after this is supposed to be done."

I started to walk away from him and heard a whisper in my ear.  "Just some people.  That's all .  Just some people who are watching every move you make trying to find out if you are worthy of doing this chore.  They know what is coming.  They are just trying to get ready.  You have no idea though."

I quickly spun around on my heel and grabbed him by his shoulders.  Staring him straight in the eye I asked him one final time.  "What are you saying?  Who is everybody?  What are they watching?  What do you know?"

He looked at me like I was insane and ran out the door as quickly as he could.  I had never seen such a chubby guy run so fast.  Oh well, guess I was on my own again.  I could do it.

"No, you're not alone.  Now you will never be alone again.  Not like you were at first.  You have always heard me, just never listened.  Now you have to."

I turned around and tried to find where the voice was coming from but no one was there.  I found myself staring at the envelope that was in my hand.  I tore it open in one crisp, swift movement and out fell a photograph of a little blonde girl, maybe about six years old and an older gentleman with long flowing brown hair.  The man was bent over the little girl with his hands on her shoulders.  Over his head was a star.  Attached to the photo was a note:

"Dearest Natalie:
I told you I would get back to you.  This is your assignment.  Everything that you have been taught you have to put into play right about now.  He is your target.  She is not to be hurt.  No one, and I repeat, no one is to know.  You have two weeks.

All my love,
J.T."

Damn him!!  Why did he have to give me an assignment like this but no reason as to why?  Ok, must be the good little soldier girl and do as I have been trained to do without questioning.

I headed out of the bar and went back to my apartment, the apartment that we did share.  I knew that I had to to plan this out carefully.  First assignment.  I wondered if I could pull it off and no one be the wiser.
