Chapter Five.

I spent five minutes fighting with myself.  Do I cross the street or not?  Do I walk up to the doorbell and just ring it or not?  The minutes drug by like molasses.  I had no idea what I was doing but I knew that I could not stay here.  Kaos could come and find me any minute and then what would I be?  I'd be splattered like wet dog chow all over the pavement.

"You know he is only in your mind.  You know that nothing you have seen in the last couple of hours is real.  Just cross the street.  Cross the street, ring the doorbell, open the door.  What's the worst that could happen?  The people in that shop might JUST be able to help you.  Go on, it's about time that you put your training to good use."

I looked around and didn't see anyone else around me so I realized that the voice must be coming from my head, again.  I decided to bite the bullet and go ahead and cross the street.  What could I lose eh?

I knocked on the door and it was opened by a 6'5 young man with hair down past his waist.  His hair was the color of the midnight sky without stars and his eyes the deepest, darkest shade of gray that I had ever seen on anyone.  I had no idea how it could be natural.  Looking at him made me feel inadequate and also made me swoon.  How could I worry about J.T. when I had a living Adonis in front of me?

"So, you are the one that has been chased by Kaos eh?"  His voice rang out of him with a strength I would not have expected but was also soft as velvet.

I studied him closer.  He didn't appear to be anything but a meddler but what did I know? I had only known about this underground part of society for a veryshort period.  He looked up at me and gave me a grin.  I started to melt.

"Please, do come in.  Sit a spell and tell me how you met Kaos and Jeremiah.  They don't show themselves to just anyone."

"Yeah, course they don't.  You knew this all along.  You also knew that human beings were the only creatures in the world that had any sense.  What you know can't hurt you.  It is what you DON'T know that can, and often does.  Are you going to trust him?  Dare you?"

I stepped inside the shop, being careful not to brush away the salt line in front of the door.  I figured that was to ward off evil spirits.  J.T. had taught me a few things.

"OK, I'm in.  What do you want from me?  Why have I been pulled here?  What does this have to do with the chore that J.T. set for me?"

"Impatient much?  Well, I don't blame you.  Time is of the essence after all and it is time which you are running out of isn't it?  The chore is supposed to be finished in less than a fortnight but you don't even know where to start do you?"

I looked at him with new eyes.  He had no idea what he was asking.  Of this I was sure.

"Or does he?  Does he not know or does he know full well?  Is he the one with access to the all seeing and all knowing crystal ball?  Can he read the tarot and tell you what your future holds?  Or the runes?  Maybe he threw the bone runes before you showed up and he was only lying in wait for you to show up through that door. Might not have been today or tomorrow but he knew you were coming."

The voice had a point.  Biting the bullet I asked him, "Did you know I was coming this time?  Did you know to expect me?"

He looked up at me from where he was standing.  He let out a little laugh and seemed like the was enjoying himself too much.  "But of course I did.  Time circles back around on itself again and again.  You have been here before.  I knew you would again.  No escaping fate."

"But how?  How did you know to expect me on this day of all days?"

He laughed again.  "Who do you think told J.T. to go searching for you that day all those years ago?  Did you think it was just coincidence?  Nothing is ever that.  All things happen for a reason and good things come to those who wait.  I waited for you.  Now you have come."

He stopped for a moment before he decided to continue.  "Come here, I want to show you something."

He lead me over to a black obsidian mirror that was in a stand on the longest counter top.  Shiny and pitch black.  I could see my reflection perfectly.  Or what I thought was my reflection.  He blew on it and my reflection swiped her hair away from her shoulder.  She looked around to try to find where the gust of wind came from.
I looked at him in awe.  My mouth was having trouble functioning, having trouble forming words of any type.  After a span of about five minutes of silence I looked at him and was able to speak again. "But, but how?  How am I here and there at the same time?"

He answered me thus:  "Darling, it is called co-existence.  You exist in this time and in that, in both worlds.  They run parallel to each other.  And in this one you have a chore to do that will determine where that life plane ends up.  And you are running out of time."

Fifth prompt.
In your chapter, tell me about time. What that looks like, I'll leave to your imagination. Each time (LOL) you mention time in any of its forms, make it bold. Do not, however, start going Dada and giving me sentences that are grammaticaly incorrect. If you wrote in past tense, stay in it. If you wrote in present tense, stay in it.
If this confuses you, post your questions in the forum. I'll gladly give hints, as long as the whole group gets the benefit of those.
