Winter's Grasp

It frightens all

Stealing away the light
the long winter night
frightens all.

Beyond the edge of
darkness shows love
of summer day.

But out of reach and
Winter shall stand
land desolate.

Songs of breath and longing
emerge. Cold wind, snowing,
raining tears, sad.

All life sinks to the deep,
finding new ways to creep,
keep going.

Things turn grey and gloom
rushes into hearts, doom.
Room for these thoughts not.

Nightly snowfalls scare
and more alert, aware,
stare ahead.

It's only winter.
It's only snow.
