cleaning out a closet

first draft of a poem

cleaning out a closet

i cleaned out a closet today
or really, it was part of a closet
but it felt
great

organizing things
in new places
on new shelves
that fit just right

getting rid of things
no longer needed
or used
that were taking up space

i took three bags
out to the trash
from one part
of one closet

so what does that mean?

i suppose it means
i have a lot of garbage
filling up space in my life

and it means
i need to be careful
about the things i hold onto

and it means
i need to stay organized
so i can find what i need
even in the clutter of my life

my closet looks great tonight
and i found myself just looking at it
and feeling proud

i'd better get to work
on cleaning out
my life closets
so i can feel
the same way
about me
