A poem about seeing someone again after a break up

The sun was bright that day
when I saw you on the street.
Time stood still as my heart
sank to the concrete.

I tried to turn on a dime,
before you had the chance to see.
But turn, I didn't quickly enough.
You raised your hand to speak.

l tried to walk in a hurry
before you found me in time.
My thoughts stopped me in a lurch,
my emotions running high.

Our break up wasn't an easy one.
I thought I'd never see you again.
I hated you so very much.
We can never again be friends.

But here we stand toe to toe,
looking into each others eyes.
My lips would not open,
yours did the same as mine.

The seconds felt like hours,
suspending us in time.
Not a word spoken between us.
The memories filled our minds.

With a sigh I looked away from you
and you looked down at your feet.
We came to the same conclusion.
We don't have to speak.

You went your way and I went mine.
The silence never broken.
The moment saved forever in time.
Apologies never spoken.
