Caged

Feelings that I have had throughout my life.

I saw this rat in a tree one night
I was almost jealous as I looked into its eyes
It was free to do as it pleased with no question
Didn't have to hear people's lies or obsessions
It didn't have to sit and watch
as all its loved ones slipped into the dark

I am a rat in a cage
the door left open
too scared to leave my comfortable surroundings
Look out the bars and see the outside
it is in my mind that I run and hide

Just one little step is all I have to take
to become who I truly can be
Just one foot in front of the other
to find the one who they say is me
