Why do angels have wings?
Do they fly and never land?
Do they ever touch the earth?

Eagles have wings.  They soar to the blue mountaintops
We look up and see them there
How high must we look to see angels?

Angels have wings, but they do not soar to the blue mountaintops.
Look up--you will not see them there
How high must we look to see angels?

I saw a mother with her child this morning
holding him close against the winter wind
And I saw an angel

Why do angels have wings?
Not to fly, not to land
Not to touch the earth

Why do angels have wings?
Not to fly but to lift
To raise the eye as they touch the heart.
