April Fools

This first day of April,
Full of laughs and great jokes.
From family and friends,
To whom I send pokes.

The sly and determined,
To catch someone off guard;
With the greatest of pranks,
- Oh aren't they a card?

The anticipation
Of waiting all day,
Not knowing when;
The joke comes our way.

If one was quite smart,
And be on the ball,
To wit them all out;
With the best joke of all.

I always get caught,
Never ready for any;
The joke's been on me.
On Aprils, of many.
