for The Poet's Place Cafe

Strolling through the winter carnival
my eyes blinded by the colored lights;
brilliant bells ringing-it’s remarkable
to be within the crowd, taking in the sights!

Warmed pretzels with tasty caramel salt,
hot chocolate to sooth the chilly night.
Oh my- a snowman doing somersaults
‘n snow sculptures that are glassy white.

The scent of pine that surrounds the maze
heightens from the heat of bonfires
that leave the children amazed,
with orange flames from the fire.

I wrap my scarf around my face
feeling it’s warm soft knit on my skin
stopping the wind that sped up pace-
stopping it from wind burn on my chin.

Fireworks of all colors in the distance,
a wonderment that still amazes me.
How they stay patterned with resistance
from the wind as though they were free.

The night lingers into midnight
‘n the crowds start to part ways.
The lights dim down being not so bright
Another year done until future days.
