Several years ago, I went into a Michaels craft store for the first time. It was a big store with hundreds, if not thousands, of crafty options. I was floored. To support such stores, there had to be hundreds of thousands of people out there who needed to do stuff with their hands. I concluded that the origin of the impulse was the same as that which motivated the first stone tool makers -the endorphin rush that came when they made stuff with their hands. Scrapbookers, greenware painters, the great architects, major painters, and sculptors, everyone is an endorphin addict. Human beings make stuff for the endorphin rush, including me.
