It seems we joined in the same year. i wasn't necessarily looking for a writing community, just something to occupy me after my daughter left home.

Yes, Birthday Week is a great time to get to know your way around and to meet new people. I joined the Birthday Masquerade and met a lot of people I might never have come across otherwise.

You mention that you are a teacher. I hope you have learned things here that you can pass on to your students. If they are old enough maybe you could encourage some to join the site.

You highlight the fact that WDC is always evolving. Yes, there have been a lot of changes in your 15 years on the site. I am not far behind you with 13 years under my belt.

You are right, WDC is as much a friendship group as a writing site. If someone goes missing for a while we do get concerned. I think it is important to reach out to family and friends and encourage them to join. Why should they miss out on such a lively, caring community.
