lived along the North Hangkang river back in the 80s

Hangkang River Blues

30

When Sam
was in the Peace Corps
back in the 80’s

He lived in a small town
Gaypeoung, Korea
Two hours due East of Seoul
Along the Puk (north) Hang Kang River.

He would often walk
down to the river
When he felt the river blues
Come over him.

Having to escape
His too small room

Living as a stranger
In a strange land
Learning a weird language

In the summer
Looking at the yellow flowers
Down by the riverside

Stopping off to eat
Korean ice cream
Savoring the moment
Lost in thought

Wondering yet again
What was he doing?
Why was he there?

And would he meet
The lady of his dreams
Who was in Korea
Waiting for him.
