If things had been different who knows...

If you were not so wise beyond your years
If you were not so mature
Maybe, then I could have resisted
And not have been lured
If you had not been so interesting
If you had not been so charming
I could have kept things how they were
And felt my feelings calming
If you were not so intelligent
If you had not taught me so much
Maybe we could have stayed just friends
Then I wouldn’t miss your touch
If you hadn’t made me laugh so hard
If only, just once, you had made me cry
Maybe I would not have let down my guard
Or got out of my cage to fly
But unable to resist, I find myself addicted
Like any uncharted territory you are greatly intriguing
Although the outcome was as predicted
We knew it could happen this way
But didn’t seem to mind
Got so much from taking a chance
And overlooking our crime
I'm glad I couldn't resist
