THE HERO IN YOU

This poem is dedicated to my son, my Hero, who will be returning to Iraq soon.

You came into this world
So small, so new,
Little did I know,
The Hero in You.
You grew into a boy
So fearless, so bright,
So full of courage,
So full of might.
Willing to protect,
Whatever the cost,
Innocence you lost.
Protecting your mother,
Your sister too,
That was the Hero,
Growing in You.

You grew into a man
So tall, so true,
How well I knew,
The Hero in You.
Ready for battle,
Willing to die,
Fighting for freedom,
Under one Big Sky.
So strong, so brave,
So full of heart,
A Soldier right from the start.
Protecting your Country,
The Red, White, and Blue.
That’s the Hero,
God created in You.
