This blog keeps me in touch with WDC. Jamesdillingham.com keeps me in touch elsewhere. |
I like to stay in touch with WDC, even when I'm not contributing on a daily basis. My main blog is at jamesdillingham.blogspot.com |
I am still editing my book. I will not do any other writing until I finish. That is my motivation. I want to finish today. |
I am grounded in Chicago for want of an airplane windshield wiper. New plane soon....in the mean time...I just ate a bag of peanut M&Ms...I love those things. |
I have been busy with the 15 stories in 15 days contest. You only write for 15 minutes but to get a good story out, you have to spend some time thinking about the story ahead of time. So, it takes more time and effort that one might guess. Anyway, the contest was a lot of fun. Everyone posted their entries directly into the forum. I think this made it very easy to read other entries. The downside is that you comment via email instead of through the review system (although you could still do that if you went through their port). There was also a contest forum. These things all resulted in a group that interacted closely over a 15 day period. I got to meet a lot of new members of WDC. It was a lot of fun. Now I have to get back to editing my book. I wanted to be done by the end of September but I am now behind. I am also in a workshop (WDC) for writing novels so I am working on part 2 of my book as I edit part one. |
Off to the airport. The 15 for 15 contest has been a lot of fun, although yesterday was weird. I forgot that PST and WDC time are different so I was an hour late with an entry. The photo prompt was missing but competing members managed to find a link to the picture. So all is well. I hope the new prompt is posted before my flight leaves. I just joined a WDC class on writing a novel. I am halfway through mine so this should help me to keep moving forward. I have a couple of other novels I want to write, much more along the lines of action/SF but I wont start anything new until this one is done. Jim |
I am really enjoying the 15 for 15 contest. I think the chat forum that accompanies the contest is helpful for building friendships. I barely got yesterday's prompt before getting on a airplane. Today, I will not get off work until late tonight. Hopefully, I will be able to get a peak at the prompt before I get off so I can at least thing about it. |
After a nice relaxing summer - work was slow - I am back at work on Monday. That means flying all day to Toledo. Tuesday and Wednesday are full workdays. Thursday is another day for flying. Saturday is a 5 hour drive down to Bakersfield for a high school reunion. Sunday is a long drive back. I will have to pay attention to make sure I get my daily entry into the 15 for 15 contest. J |
I am really enjoying this contest. There are 50 contestants and everyone is having a great time. I like that we post directly into the forum so I can quickly ready other stories. I am still working on editing my book. Taking longer than I thought, mostly because I find other stuff to do. |
I have completed all of the WDC grammatical inputs for the first half of my book. I pasted all 20 chapters together and am now working on some of the writing itself. It's funny now that I read it all the way through at once, how things (aka mistakes) stand out. For example, I used Bob and Ben interchangeably for a name (error caught by DutchHillGirl). I want to have this ready to submit to an agent by Monday. Work starts up Monday so my writing time will be cut back. My next Flash Fiction entry will be my 200th! Tomorrow, the 15 for 15 contest starts. The limit is 50 entries. If everyone stays in, that is 750 short stories in just over 2 weeks. This is one of my favorite contests. Jim |
I need to keep pushing on my novel. There are so many writing things coming up but I have to put most of them aside until I get this first half edited. Coming up: 15 minutes for 15 days contest. I love this one (starts 9/28) 14 days, 7 prompts, 1 story. I love this one too (starts 10/15) I really like the prompt for short shots. Huntersmoon has written a great story and now I feel motivated to enter Only 3 more flash fiction stories to 200 And work is picking up. I actually need to make a living since book isn't selling. Actually, i guess I have to write it first. Here in California, it rained lightly this weekend. Fall is in the air and I love it. J |
After a nice, slow summer, work is picking up quickly. I start my next project in a week. Toledo, Ohio. So, between now and then, I need to finish the edit of the first half of my book and complete 4 more flash fictions (to get to 200 stories). I also have another goal. I want to get another short story published. Maybe something around 3,000 words. I have a few ideas. Orson Scott Card has a website where he accepts short stories for publishing. J |
