This is a blessed spot, spoilt only by the people, in the central North Island of NZ.
Most of the time for me the glass is half empty. On rare occasions the glass is half full as with news of The Donald's activities.

We have a new government and not a moment too soon! The previous shower were selling us down the river. Specially to foreign speculators.

The last two months have been a nightmare and still not over. I have not been able to keep blog contributions going. My better half had a lump on her back that was melanoma or cancerous. Fortunately after it was cut out and a scan no further cancer was found. My sonds drug use finally reached the tipping point a few weeks ago. He buys drugs and cant pay for them as he cannot hold down a job. Then he gets beaten up or has stuff like his shoes taken. The tipping point was earlier this week when 3 heavies arrived at my house when my son was out and claimed he owed them money so they wanted to take my motorbike. I told them f...k off and I was so angry they are lucky they were not hurt. I have taken to carrying weapons with me at all times and this drug stuff has been stressful. They left after I called the cops even though the cops never showed up. I wanted to inflict great violence and know that I have to calm down. On a positive my son has now started rehab so lets see how it goes. He has been an addict for 10 years or so and maybe we were wrong to turn mostly a blind eye. Wife and I are not in a good place now and we have installed security cameras etc.plus left weapons strategically placed hidden round the yard. Hoping it gets better.

A very bad last week of July. Earlier this year our dog Lexi was diagnosed with bone cancer in her right shoulder. After 6 months she had deteriorated markedly and in spite of painkillers etc it was the end of the road. For 7 years she came everywhere with me in our van on delivery runs and other chores; I feel her absence with deep sadness. Then an old friend of mine by the name of Ian Tasker died. He was 86 and like a second father to me. So here we are in August - the last month of winter - and I can only hope things improve.

Midwinter is well and truly here. With election year the politicians promises/bribes are coming thick and fast. We will all be millionaires at this rate. My 1st phase recollections are almost ready so will put them on here soon.

I just had a birthday and am inching closer to the pension. We do not know when our time is up so we just have to keep hoping. I certainly want to get some return on taxes I have paid over my working life. It is midwinter here and very dreary. The wind cuts through a person like a knife and we are getting a lot of rain plus snow on the hills. The world has gone mad with recent events and I am concerned about the Democrat party and its ravings in the US of A. Down here all we can do is mutter. On a brighter note my daughter is driving quite well now. She is a natural and drives to and from college. I am struggling with cadet recollections but a good friend is helping with editing.

Another dreary day. Anyway my daughter is ready to drive the school run from next week. May God be with us. At 16 they know it all.The UK bombing hit me hard because the girls at the show are my daughters age. My 25 year old son has his eye on a motorbike and hopes to win the auction. It is 200 cc and a Chinese model but under license to Suzuki. Anyway it will be a cheap entry level mode of transport to get him started. He now has a permanent job building so it is up to him now. I hope he makes it.

I am teaching my 16 year old daughter to drive! Yikes! Actually she is a natural at it and we are making good progress. She will be able to drive to and from school soon. We have a severe cold snap today and the weather is atrocious. Wind, rain and more wind. Temperatures will be in the minus over the next few days here. I have just returned from a driving lesson so let me go and have a whiskey.

We are getting some damn good frosts lately and we have our wood fire going every night now. But it is still Autumn! I am having a few health issues and am down with mid Winter blues very early this year. I have kids at school and another one working and a shortage of transport so it means a lot of running round dropping off and collecting. The madness will end at some point. My working son Devon is looking for a cheap motorbike or scooter so that will take the pressure off. He is short of cash so will have to settle for a 125 cc or similar. You can pick them up here for around $1000.It is dark now by 1745 and we are still around 6 weeks off the shortest day.

I went over to Rotorua with my son to sit his restricted motorcycle license today. It was a slow trip. I went ahead in the van and he followed on the bike. We averaged around 85 kph throughout the journey. He passed and I am pleased for him. We have a 250 cc Suzuki Inazuma. It is much tougher to get a license now than it was back in my day. A five minute trip round the block with the local traffic cop and you had a full license! Those were the days. So at least he has achieved another step in the process and after 12 months he can sit his full license. These past few weeks I seem to be going one step forward and three back. I can't seem to get on top of things. My Army account for the book is well behind and other tasks around the house are falling behind. I have to snap out of it. Anyway this is a beautiful time of year here; with the days as long as the nights. I must say when I took the van over today to give some support it was a nice day and my spirits lifted!
I am concerned about North Korea and hope the situation finally gets sorted out. It is a sad joke that has gone on too long.

We are in the middle of a 500 year storm. Meaning it happens every half a millennia. I do not set any store by these comments. But many here do. Anyway we are getting a lot of rain and some major flooding in parts of the country. Civil defence staff love these events as it helps justify their well padded salaries and allows them to order people around and shout instructions.
